What challenges within higher education are the Nordic Region facing? How can we learn from each other?

On behalf of the Swedish Government, the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) is organising a Nordic conference on quality in higher education. The conference, Current Priorities and Future Challenges: Higher Education in the Nordic Region, will be held in conjunction with Sweden’s Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers on 13 June at the Brewery (Münchenbryggeriet) in Stockholm. It is aimed at decision makers and individuals active in higher education in the Nordic Region.

The conference is an opportunity for learning, dialogue and conversation about relevant issues. To give the participants an additional opportunity to meet and network, UKÄ is hosting a dinner the evening before the conference. We hope that participants will take this opportunity to start the conference by making new contacts. The location of the dinner will be announced at a later date.

The conference will focus on such areas as:

  • The challenges and opportunities of digitisation. The world is facing a digital revolution. What is the role of higher education in society’s digitalisation process? What are the consequences for higher education of an ever-increasing use of modern communication technologies?
  • Linking research and education. How do we assure high quality in the link between research and higher education? What demands does the transition to a knowledge society make on HEIs and individuals? Is the Nordic Region prepared to take on the new challenges of the impending knowledge society?
  • The conference will also highlight gender equality as it relates to higher education.

The Swedish Minister for Higher Education and Research, Helene Hellmark Knutsson, will participate in the conference.
The conference programme and more information will be published shortly. The conference will be held in English.
