A conference addressing the challenges of English-medium
instruction for multilingual and multicultural student groups
Since 2010, a number of Danish universities (AU, AAU, CBS, DTU,
KU, RUC) have been working on a joint project, financed by the
Danish 'Centre for Development of Human Resources and Quality
Management (SCKK)', to develop courses and tools for university
teachers with a view to tackling the linguistic, cultural and
pedagogical challenges Danish universities are facing as a result
of increasing internationalization. These challenges include not
only teachers' language competences but also the difficulties
associated with integrating students from many different
educational backgrounds into the Danish university context.
This conference will present the results of the project,
including the launch of a website containing a selection of
resources for teachers and a preview of a practice-oriented book
about some of the typical challenges experienced by teachers when
having to teach multilingual and multicultural student groups in
English which will be published in 2012.
The conference will be held in English and participation is
free.
